"Festival of the Sound" Debut
Seventeen-year-old Annie Zhou, this year’s RBC Stockey Young Artist, totally captivated the audience on Thursday afternoon with an all Chopin programme.
Opening with the Ballade No. 1, she then gave us a rare treat in the form of three late Mazurkas. She concluded her recital with a powerful rendition of the Sonata No. 3 in C minor, said to be one of the most challenging works in the regular piano repertoire. Zhou’s technique was formidable, her interpretation well-developed for such a young artist. It would be interesting to hear her perform the same programme some twenty years or more into the future.
